Good Afternoon Pony Clubbers!
It was great to see several of you yesterday in the rain! It was wonderful how the rain stopped long enough for our photo ops with Poggio and Leyland. Everybody still have all 10 fingers? Leyland is quite the character. Poggio came all the way from California just to have a retirement party!
There is a great article in Eventing Magazine this month. It is called “A Lifetime of Knowledge – Growing up with Pony Club”. Amy Tryon herself was featured speaking about how wonderful Pony Club is. There was a picture of Amy at her one of her rallies at age 12. Wish I had this magazine yesterday – that would have been great to have autographed. She says “The big thing Pony Club gave me is structure. It teaches self reliance, how to safely care for a horse, and to be self-sufficient. Gina Miles says “Do you want to ride in the Olympics? then join Pony Club, there’s no better way to prepare”. Stephen Bradley came from a non-horsey family riding western until someone introduced him to Pony Club. He says “ For me Pony Club was huge. I didn’t come from a horse family. Pony Club was perfect for me – it helped me learn the day to day things I needed to know to take care of horses.” These quotes are why you often see this Olympic and otherwise professional riders giving back to the organization they give so much credit to. Just like Amy allowing us to come see her boys and Gina Miles speaking at the Annual Meeting.
